L’Ultima Fila was born in the heart of the Florence metropolitan area, from a shared idea among eight young people with different backgrounds, sensibilities and paths, but a common dream: to bring theatre wherever meaningful connections can emerge. We found our home in Greve in Chianti, a community that welcomed us and where, since 2022, we have begun to build festivals, performances, workshops and cultural projects throughout the area. Our first challenge was to bring the theatre at the Circolo ARCI del Ferrone back to life, transforming it into a vibrant place for exchange and community. The strength of our group lies in the diversity of our skills: directing, theatre education, writing, set design, organisation, music and cultural project development. We are not a uniform collective, but a constellation of visions that intertwine in a creative dialogue built on listening, exchange and care. We believe in theatre that is accessible, participatory and inclusive, capable of speaking to people of all ages and of emerging wherever there is space for encounter. L’Ultima Fila explores the languages of theatre, always starting from what fascinates us most: storytelling. From the spoken word comes the vision, which then opens up to the body, the mask, the stage space, light, materials and atmospheres. Our work intertwines dramaturgy and imagery, with particular attention to Mask and Figure Theatre, an area that for years has been at the heart of our artistic research. Every production is conceived as a visual and sensory experience, in which the stage becomes a story through its very appearance: the use of light, the care given to set design, the actor’s physical work, the material details — everything contributes to creating emotions and meaning. Our theatre is research, but also presence, connection and rootedness. Every production by L’Ultima Fila begins with an idea, a narrative urgency, a question to share with the audience. We do not start from ready-made formats, but from original journeys, developed over time and with care, in which collective work intertwines with formal and scenic experimentation. Our performances do not seek truths to explain, but worlds to evoke, characters to embody, images to move through. We like to think of every creation as a journey, both for those of us who create it and for those who experience it. For us, theatre is a means of transportation. A vehicle capable of taking the spectator somewhere else — an imaginative elsewhere made of light, matter, bodies and visions. Not simply a story to listen to, but an experience to move through, engaging all the senses. At the heart of our research is Mask Theatre, a language we love to explore and cross-pollinate, with constant attention to stage imagery, visual dramaturgy and the physicality of the actor. Every performance emerges from a delicate balance between word and gesture, sound and silence, presence and transformation. For us, the mask is not simply an object. It is a powerful poetic and anthropological device, a tool that allows the actor to become someone or something other than themselves and, precisely for this reason, to tell something profound and universal. A mask truly comes to life only when it is worn, inhabited and activated. Its meaning is fulfilled through action, rhythm and its relationship with the audience. Our productions are designed to speak to people of all ages, in different ways but always authentically. Performances that inspire dreams, reflection and emotion, with meticulous craftsmanship in every detail: from the construction of the characters to the choice of lighting, from the dramaturgical structure to the set design. Every scene is a small world. Every mask is a possibility of seeing. Every performance is an invitation to let yourself be moved through.
