Clothes are like skin—a skin of fabric that dresses our soul. And the soul can sew, resew, and unsew every joy and every sorrow.
The theatrical performance in Italian, with a performative character, was first presented in 2019, touring in various countries (France, Russia, Qatar). In 2023, The Dress of Memories received support from the Italian Ministry of Culture and the SIAE “Per chi crea” program, debuting in its final form in New York. After the New York stage, the show embarked on a long and prestigious European tour in May, performing at the Theater Expedition Metropolis in Berlin, the Theater Atelier in Stuttgart, the Smock Alley Theatre in Dublin, continuing to Madrid, the Teatro Inestable in Valencia, and the Teatro Massimo in Cagliari.
Show Description:
A woman remembers the moment her husband prepares to take a step into the unknown—his future is war, but just before leaving, they both linger among the memories evoked by the woman’s dress. In Sardinian culture, traditional clothing illustrated in its weave the signs of the wearer’s life experiences.
The dress becomes the silent witness of events and personal stories, capable of containing the episodes of daily life, the intertwined threads of love and death.
A theatrical and musical show dedicated to the condition of Farewell, explored through a world suspended between what has been and what is, and what will become.
The show focuses on the exact moment when ordinary existence, which keeps us firmly connected to our lives, is irreversibly disrupted by events beyond our control, ending what we were.
The Dress of Memories unfolds as an emotional journey through the boundaries of pain and human resilience, where the protagonists confront the bitter reality of separation that leads to transformation. It explores the delicate balance between the desire to preserve the life one knows and the necessity to depart and change, between the illusion of eternity and the cruelty of goodbye.
The characters face the uncertainty of the future, between fears and hopes, clinging to the past and their memories. The call to the front, although the declared reason for the physical separation, becomes the stage on which the tension of impermanence, the drama of the precariousness of any human condition, unfolds.
Through a blend of poetry, music, and scenic movement, the performance explores the boundaries of the human soul and offers a glimpse into the universal challenges related to facing separation.
